Re: [Harp-L] When Did Fast Become Good?

When I experience a harmonica player using speed chops mostly, the admiration I have is based on the time he put into this.....hours spent increasing speed....woodshedding.

It's one thing to admire the determination and another to realize that virtually anyone can achieve it if it spending enough time in this direction....anyone.

What I admire are those that have spent time learning to make musical statements..especially those that sound good upon repeated viewing as long as I don't start to recognize cut and paste ideas.

For instance, I enjoyed Rod Piazza the first time I saw him. When I came back the next night, I realized that everything he played (even solo wise) was identical from the night before. Personally, he slipped a notch or two in my estimation...but this is totally subjective to what turns me on musically.

This may also be a result of maturity in what I like.
