Re: [Harp-L] Re: got amp, now what?

If you've already got an amp, the next thing is a mic. Take a look at this:

FYI, it should be no surprise to anyone on this list that I'm not a strong proponent of the traditional bullet/tube amp setup. When it's done right it sounds good, but it's a very particular sound that goes with a very particular style of music: i.e., amped blues, circa 1955. Modern technologies for amp modeling in my opinion offer superior price for performance, and WAY WAY WAY more variety in the tone than you can ever hope to get from a single amp.

Anyone check out Ian Collard's clips on the Harp Attack vs. the Sonny Jr.? The harp attack is effectively an amp modeler. It's small and lightweight, and it puts out a great sound. It's not as flexible as a full blown multiFX box like the Digitech RPs I use, and it doesn't sound exactly like a Sonny Jr. But it's inexpensive, easy to use and set up, and sounds great.

All that said, I own a Crate VC508 and a Sonny Junior Super Sonny. They're both great amps. But I rarely gig with them now. I just get a lot more sound, with a lot less effort, from my amp modelers.
