Re: [Harp-L] Tightening mouthpiece screws

I press lightly on the middle of the mouthpiece while I tighten both screws enough so that the mouthpiece assembly is held in place. At that point I examine the left end of the harmonica check to visually ensure that the elements of the mouthpiece "sandwich" are in alignment - i.e., the slide cage (aka U-channel) is parallel to the backing plate.

Then I tighten one screw (usually the one at the left end, though I'm not sure it matters) until it binds, then back off a quarter-turn, making further adjustment as needed.

Then I follow the same procedure with the other screw, tighening it until it binds and then backing off until slide movement is acceptable.

If the mouthpiece leaks after these adjustments, it needs some modification.

I have a hard time adjusting the mouthpiece screws on my chromatic
harmonicas. I find the trial and error method of doing this frustrating.
Anybody have any words of wisdom for me?
