Re: [Harp-L] Harp-L] Toots

Thanks, good stuff from Rob here, both in playing and general knowledge.

For a few days IÂve been trying to find a good, warm sound to use for a backing harmonica track for a friend whoÂs doing a version of "Rainy night in Georgia".
ÂÂÂ My RP pedal contains about a 100 different sounds, none would do; I went through four or five amplifiers and various other gear in his studio. Nope.
The said something like "F--- this f----ing s--t", in a polite way, and plugged the mic right into the console (a not in any sense remarkable Zoom product, very digital), made some EQ adjustments and, afterwards added reverb.-- yeah, sounded just right.

Thanx Bob,-) I'm Tryingââ

I agree with you about smo-joe and YOU sure ain't to shabby my friend.-)

So today I had a different experience in the studioâ..Today I was trying to channel the Butterfield a bit for my new big band tribute to him and the Electric Flag.

I recorded "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" ala Butter's live double LP versionâ

I guess ideally doing it at an "analog" studio would help but I had good luck at this Digital studio with my last CDâ..

I first used my Fender Blues Deluxe with a Shure 545 but the 1X12 Deluxe (Mic'ed with a room condenser mic and close up with a 57 on the amp) gave me too much 'break up' and distortion and I wanted a broader more open sound with some grit but not a full out distortionââ

so I ended up using a 1970 Twin Reverb with my Ultimate 57 by Blowsmeawayââ.we mixed the amp close up with an EV RE20 and also the room Condensor mic for ambienceâ..

Then because I was trying to "cut' over a 20 piece band we ran it thru the "Sonic Maximizer" to just brighten and lift it up in the mixâpretty happen with the outcomeâ.

"Strive for Toneâ."

Best,
Rob P
