Re: [Harp-L] SPAH convention locations.

I hear from all sorts of folks who would like SPAH to come to the southeast, the west coast, back to the east coast, and lots of other places.

The things needed for a SPAH convention to be viable in any particular location are:

1) A local organization on the ground to handle local logistics and provide support at the event. Usually this means a harmonica club but it could be another group of committed individuals.

2) A suitable venue. It needs to be a reasonably priced hotel with the following characteristics:

 a) at least 250 rooms available for us (over and above any other capacity the hotel needs for its other guests)

 b) the facilities we need for seminars, concerts, open mic, and jamming
 c) close to major highways
 d) close to a large airport - with free shuttle service to the hotel an important consideration

Right now we're accepting proposals for the 2015 convention. If you have a local organization that can take on the required duties and can come up with three local hotels with suitable facilities, please forward your proposal to me in the next 30 days. We'll be choosing our destination in October and doing a final site visit to assess the venue in November.

I wouldn't mind it coming back to Virginia Beach. I liked that hotel and the location.
SPAH as far as I know was outside Detroit for years. St. Louis does have an advantage of
being more centrally located to both coasts.

SPAH Has been in a different place every year as long a I've been going.
Next year it is in the same as this year for whatever reason.

Create a harmonica club in your city and do the work to sponsor SPAH.
