Re: [Harp-L] best small tube amp?

Hi Martin,
(don't know why you changed the 'subject' but I changed it back, hope you can still find it)
I heard good things bout the VHT Special 6
Which mod kit did you use? (I can find 3 different kits on Ebay) and was it hard to do? Doesnt look very easy :-(
Was changing the tubes neccessary, I mean, did you hear a lot of difference?

Tia & cheers

I have recently been researching the same question, and decided on the VHT Special 6. For the price it it is excellent. I paid Â118 from Thomann on the net. Out of the box it was pretty good, but I modded it using the Alnicomagnet mod kit available on eBay. I have also changed the tubes. Sounds great and on the MBH forum a few people think it is better than the Fender Junior. If you are anywhere near Staffordshire you are welcome to come and try it. I also have a Vox AC4 TV Mini which I also like which is very small and portable.

Cheers

Hi all,
my apologies to ask another 'best amp' question! But you know how us harp players are obsessed with the topic :-)

I'm planning to buy a small tube amp for blues playing. This will be used for gigging in small to medium sized venues, so it doesn't need to be too loud. I want the distortion to come in at as low a volume as possible.
An added bonus would be a good clean channel as well, but I can live with just a blues sound.

I'm considering the Fender Pro Junior.

Any other suggestions / advice most appreciated.

PS. purchasing in the UK
