 I heard the difference in those covers and it was startling.
 
I wasn't even aware that the test was going on at the time; Blackie Schackner had engaged me in conversation after the comb test, and while we were talking someone played the CX-12 with the brass covers. The sound was so different from what I'd been hearing that it grabbed my attention away from the conversation. 
 
 Also, I had no ideas one way or the other about cover materials, so there was no confirmation bias.

At SPAH97, listeners could not tell the difference between two CX12s, one with stock ABS and the other with bare brass covers.
