I polish the outsides of the sp20 stock comb and round the corners, this is just for comfort and aesthetic. You can also clip out the little plastic bars that block the channels. As far as flat, the best you can do is 1) Flat sand your reedplates 2) try putting micropore on the comb as a gasket. I hate doing this myself, but it does make it tighter but usually dampens the sound. Ive also done things like melt bees wax in the little crevices in the slots, etc.

After all of this work, you may say Ill just replace the comb. that is what I did and starting making them.

I'm still a little wary of gapping and embossing, but I feel more comfortable with trying to make something flat! Any clues from the experts on how us amateurs might improve the flatness of a 'standard' plastic combs (SP20, LO etc)?
