[Harp-L] air through harp and nose simultaneously



Using nasal airflow (opening the pharynx) changes timbre. It is a technique to control timbre, not simply a way to manage breath control. You get a somewhat softer and maybe smoother timbre and slightly different reed response if you open your pharynx (use nasal airflow) when you play. Certainly not good for everything, but very nice for certain things. Probably a difficult technique to teach a beginner, though, since in some ways it's counterproductive unless the player is experienced enough to know how to control it.
