[Harp-L] Are all harp players blues players?

Richard has made a statement about most harp players limiting themselves to one musical genre. I am of the opinion that many of our fellow listers are in fact, not limited to blues at all.

Just look at the posts that have been made that share their music for all here that will actually take the time to listen. I'm not going to get into names but I have been very impressed with much of the works that have been presented. These works have not been mostly blues.

Although I have a blues band, my practice time is mostly dedicated to play practically anything I listen to and that can cover everything from jazz, standards, pop, classical, the list goes on as it is endless. I try to stretch the boundaries. Heck, the best place to make mistakes is when you practice.

One of the songs I love to play is an old tune entitled " I Found A Million Dollar Baby" A tune by Harry Warren written in 1931. Another is " Back Home In Indiana". These tunes were written long before I was born but I love them and I find them fantastic to improvise to.

And guess what? I can take some of those ideas and place them in another tune. I guess a lot of us do that.

Friends, what it just may all boil down to is, try to learn something about everything and everything about something. It seems to work for me.

Play on.
