As a fellow newbie, (14 months with no prior musical experience), may I be 
so bold as to offer some advice?

I wouldn't worry about overblows at this point, and I doubt if they are 
hindering your progress.Depending on the type of music you want to play, of 
course. I don't think Sonny Boy or Little Walter played many overblows, and 
they sound OK.

I personally find hitting the proper bent notes to be a major challenge, and 
much more important than overblows, at least in playing the blues in second 
position.

My other major challenge, especially while playing with others, is to stay 
in the groove and play on the beat. Timing my be most important of all.
