Re: [Harp-L] Motivated New Guy

Bud,

I have been playing/studying for about 6 months so I sense I am slightly
ahead of you in the learning process. So you know where I'm coming from, I
own 9 harps (I recommend buying different models of harps so you can
explore the subtle differences and begin to develop preferences), I have
memorized maybe 5 simple melodies (nothing more advanced than say Amazing
Grace or some Billy Joel or Niel Young), and about two weeks ago I played
on stage for the first time improving with some local musicians.

My advice to you and to myself is to utilize everything that is available
to you, because if you are comfortable repeating the same practice habits
will likely yeild many of the same results. The key to progressing as a
player and musician is to be continuously breaking your own habits and
pushing through plateau after plateau. MIX IT UP. Jam with a friend, play
along with the radio, practice scales, practice with youtube videos, work
on memorizing or learning a melody, download harping software to practice
with, practice controlling bends/overblows, practice different positions,
and on and on.... Focusing your effort in different areas will fuel your
progression as it does mine.

As for speeding up between notes it will come very soon to you, don't
worry, and good luck.

Bill - Philly

P.S. Thanks for the question Bud because you provoked me to participate in
this discussion for the first time (utilizing yet another resource), I'll
be posting my first question momentarily.
