Re: [Harp-L] # Re: Hohner Hoodoo Box 5W amp and Madcat shaker mic orUltimate mics

The one I have is the original combo. Not the Ultra. It takes tube swaps with no tweaking too. From 6v6 to 6L6 and EL34. EL34 seems a bit brighter in tone, more horn-like. 6L6 is rounder and warmer. But I ended up putting an old American metal GE from a wonderbar radio back in it. I haven't changed the tone-stack caps, and am pleased with it for both guitar and harp. It's the kind of "starter" amp that you will keep long after your are done "starting." I pair it with a 2x10" cab @ 16 ohms and it fairly competes with larger amps, but can use just the combo when the amp and cab is too much to carry around. SM57 and an old JT-30 stand +xlr cable reside inside the back JIC I need to mic it to a PA.

This is the second recommendation I've read for the VHT Special 6, but
it comes in several flavors. Which model is the one everyone is
recommending?

The VHT Special 6. It's a killer amp for harp.
