Another possibility is the Hohner Discovery 48, which I've heard is a really nice axe for the money -- haven't had the opportunity to try one yet myself -- they are supposed to hit the market in early 2013.

I love the sound of the 270s (and record with them often), but not fond of the nailed-on plates.
