[Harp-L] RE: Getting back to harmonica

Hey Chuck,
About five years ago, after 13 years of not playing harp at all, and a divorce, I decided to pick it up in earnest. I was basically a beginner and had no real chops, so I did a lot of listening to older stuff to try to gain some incite and cop some licks from the masters. As soon as I felt like I wouldn't look like a total buffoon, I started going to jams at clubs I knew my muscian friends frequented. Once I got over the fear of looking stupid and just got up and tried to fit in with the jam. By pushing myself to try new styles and grooves, I grew and blossomed incredibly quickly. I still jam every chance I get and am always trying new approaches to tunes my band's been doing for awhile, because I have a long way to go before I'm qualified to even carry someone like Adam (one of my personal favs) Gussow's gig case. My advice is, never be afraid to let go and try anything 'cause a lot of crap blows outta your harp and then suddenly you hit the groove and
something magical happens and you just know it's right! Oh yeah!!!
