I was going through security in Atlanta years ago and a TSA agent looking through my carry-on found a harp, and to my surprise and disgust actually blew through it.  I think I boiled it once I got home. I was quite surprised he did that.
 
He put it back and I was on my way.....

Hi Jeff

It's a breeze.  TSA knows what they look like and they go through scanners
no problem.

I use a soft side type sleeve (nylon, Seydel branded, about $8 bucks).  I
don't travel with the cases, or keep them in cases - too much space.
