[Harp-L] Re: Keys

ÂHaving read the question and the responses, I don't understand the
problem. "Keys" are part of musical notation convention that is also a
direct part of playing the music. Now my back ground is vocal trained
as a youth and multiple musical instruments along the road of life. A
"Key" simply tells the player what the notes on a the page mean if
they don't have any secondary notation. Key of F all B's are Bb unless
otherwise noted. How they progress deals with the circle of fifths if
I remember correctly (I could be wrong, music theory is not my strong
point, talk to the wife on that one). getting them in your head helps
greatly not only when reading music but also when playing by "Ear" as
you will know the notes to a structure when some one names what key it
is in and should therefore know what to play "IF" you either know it
in that key or know how to shift the keys in your head (learning that
one, the wife does it without thinking and keeping up at times gives
headaches but getting there).

Hope that helps a bit. It is pretty cut and dry stuff really, nothing
magical or mystical about it.

Michael
