It's only a major 7th if you are playing in 2nd position. In 1st it's  a b5, in third, a major 3rd etc. etc. Then again, most post-McCoy country playing is in 2nd.

I recommend changing the phrase " Country Tuning" to " Major 7th tuning " or whatever to clear people minds that it is used for all genres of music and not just Country.
