[Harp-L] getting high gain...no feedback

I picked up a BJr a few years ago because the price was right--sounded good w/guitar, but didn't much like it for harp. Later I swapped the pre tubes which made a notable diff, but I still thought it was too harsh. Few months later I did the "twin tone stack mod" (short jumper soldered between two lugs of the mid pot) which made an improvement--still not that good. I read several comments on modding the BJr that said a speaker swap would help, but not alot of bang for the buck. About 8 mos ago, I swapped in a Weber 12A125-O w/harp cap. Out of the box, it was like crunchy peanut butter, and after two weeks break-in, it just kept gettin' better! I love the tone now for small/medium bar situations, (I always mic it) and recently used it for an outdoor wedding reception w/300 people with three guitars(mature players, who actually control their vol, thankfully) but it did great. As Chris said, I don't go above 2-2 1/2 on master, but I run the vol @ 10 (out of 12). I use only two !
pedals with it, a carbon copy delay, and a harp tone plus, setting the vol on the HT+ a bit higher when it's active than when it's in bypass--both stay on all the time. I do most of our vocals also, which puts me up front away from my amp, and my monitor is nearly unusable for harp due to feedback, so the amp IS my monitor. I'm really growing fond of the little BJr on a performance v wieght basis! (hey, I'm old, O.K.!)
