Re: [Harp-L] Reed slot needs to be shortened

I should clarify a bit. These are eight sets of new custom reed plates for prototypes of an experimental chromatic harmonica, with no reeds now in place. I have sized the slots so that I can use reed sets intended for the CX-12. I could get reeds of the correct size and pitch (from a cx-12 reed set that was a tone higher) and that is an option.

One reason why I would sooner rectify the slots is so that in the future I, or anybody else, can easily swap out the reeds for a different set of CX-12 reeds, say for a higher or lower pitch, without having to think about making an exception for that one reed. Another reason is a bit more abstract - the goal is not just to build the harmonicas but to test all aspects of the design including assembly and maintenance, etc.

The input so far has been very helpful, providing me with quite a few new ideas. Thanks.

Doug H

I donno if I understand the problem correctly, but if the slot is too long for
the reed, why dont you use a longer reed instead? Just cut it to the right
length and there you have it.
