Re: [Harp-L] Jimmie Riddle

Thanks Trip;
                    I'll download that for sure.I saw Jimmy with Acuff @ 'Opryland' (aarrrgh! no wonder country is so ****** now) back in '80, but he was on pianner and Onie Wheeler played harp, which was great anyhow. Jimmy plays both chrom and diatonic on that album you've found there, doesn't he?
                    Ever heard of Warren Sykes? Me neither till just now, when, about to pose a question I've asked on this site before viz "Who was the chromatic harp player in the Rice Brothers Gang, was it Riddle?" I did a Google, and there was the info where there was none when I last looked. The stuff is also available for download, and there is now a CD available, according to this site:
http://westernswing78.blogspot.com/2008/08/rice-brothers-gang.html
                   This is typical 30's pop/swing chrom. playing, but the tunes are good, and the whole thing has a lot of charm, for this punter anyhow. If you like Riddle's stuff, you'll like Warren Sykes. Love him on 'Alabama Jubilee'.
                   Johnny Gorman, on alto sax is a great swing steel player too, in a wild and wooly kinda way.
                   Everything is in the key of C, and the band actually does a key change in one tune, clearly to accommodate the harp.
                   This stuff was last seen on a Japanese comp from the mis 70s with Cliff Bruner on the flip. Been out of print for years.
Cheers,
RD

Glad to see this available in some form; I treasure my thrift-store copy.

You can also find some clips of Riddle with the Swift Jewel Cowboys on Youtube.
