re:[Harp-L] Harp Tech With Richard Sleigh

Hi, Warren!

As with everything, there are the lessons, and then there's the practice...

I am not a sufficiently-accomplished player that I can justify buying a top-of-the-line custom harp in every key and every alternate tuning that interests me, plus a back-up harp in every key and every tuning. And I probably never will be. But I do think I have reached the point where I need -- and deserve! -- better harps than what's currently available out-of-the-box. I don't aspire to be a harp tech. I would rather play. But learning the foundation of repair and improvement from the best teacher I can find makes more sense to me as an investment than constantly buying and trying, hoping to "get lucky".

Please don't expect me to be a "monster" next time you hear me: I couldn't bear the pressure! I embrace goals and new challenges, but in recent years I have decided to eschew deadlines. My goal is to be able to make music with all kinds of people in as many styles and contexts as possible, without (pardon the phrase) sucking. All in good time, I hope.

As for you sending me some of your harps... I don't know how well I would fix them. But I could *work* on them... Bwahahahaha!

Elizabeth
