Re: [Harp-L] Covers - B-Radical

Hi David,

If you record acoustic playing while opening and closing the side
vents, then play back the recording, do you hear this effect on your
recording? If so, to what extent?

An extreme example of player / listener differences is that when I
play a Suzuki Harpmaster then a Bluesmaster and switch back and forth,
I can hear significant differences in their sound as I play. However
when I listen to the digital recording of the same, I can detect no
discernable difference between the two harps.

>From a practical standpoint, the player should play/customize in
whichever way yields an instrument that they prefer. Also, from a
practical standpoint, if opening up the coverplates is time consuming
or reduces the crushability of the harp and these are important to the
player, perhaps it's not worth doing? If one plays amped, I wouldn't
expect cover plate design to be an important factor in the final
sound.
