Thank you Steve, that is very interesting information. Although I am not  
myself allergic to nickel, over several years, I have had quite a few cover  
plates, and chromatic mouthpieces silver plated to make the harps nicer to  
play.
 
My preference for diatonic harmonicas is to use Hohner MS with "Blues Harp" 
 cover plates. The cover plates I have purchased during the past year or so 
have  had a much more shiny finish than the old ones "out of the box". 
Also, rust used  to be a problem, but the latest ones don't seem to rust. Now I 
know  why, it's because they are stainless steel.
