Re: [Harp-L] Purchasing in Canada

Hi Brian,

I find that Tom Lee Music in Vancouver has had the lowest prices I've
seen, currency adjusted, even compared to online sources. If something
is not in stock, they will order if for you at no extra cost.

That being said, Hohner prices have gone up in the last few months. I
was lucky and bought several Golden Melodies for $31 just before the
price change in April or so. Are now $42 or so. However Suzuki's
haven't changed or if they have, very little. Tom Lee tends to restock
at once with a large order and so will have a broader selection at
certain times of the year.

When ordering from the US, if it can't be shipped by US Postal Service
regular air mail, I'll find another source. In my experience, UPS
charges about $30 for customs brokerage fees, even on low value items.
Added on to the shipping cost and any CDN taxes charged, UPS shipping
is often cost prohibitive.

On the other hand, the Canada Post customs brokerage charge has been
$5. Also the actual mailing charge from the retailer for a harmonica
would likely be $3 to $5, significantly cheaper. In some cases I've
ordered items that were higher in price but all in, the cost was lower
due to USPS shipping. Found this with a digital camera last year.

See if Coast to Coast will ship by USPS to Canada. If not but will
ship USPS within the USA, I believe there maybe services in Point
Roberts where you can have an item sent to, and then bring it across
the border yourself.
