[Harp-L] Solid state amp modifications

It's a while for the penny to drop owing to my being really thick about this stuff but I now understand from recent conversations that a valve amp adapted for harp will have low gain valves and that these will make the amp less conducive to feedback. Is that right?

Does this mean that a solid state amp presumably originally designed with the guitar in mind will have high gain transisters? If this is true, would this mean that it is possible for the transisters to be changed to make the amp more feedback resistant and can this be done relatively inexpensively?

Thanks

Bill
