Re: [Harp-L] Help Please

Or, if you live in the SE, study w/me.

Having always thought outside the box and, for whatever reason, focusing on
teaching, how to teach, how to get concepts across and dealing w/each student
individually, I've developed a unique approach unlike all the traditional
ones. It is the fastest way to learn to play diatonic. I've taken mature adults
w/out any musical experience and within 6 months given them the ability to
play at a jam session. One student actually cut a "family" CD playing different
tunes as a Holiday gift after studying w/me for 5 months. These are folks
w/out any musical education and those that picked up the harmonica for the
first time at the lessons. (Actually easier to teach than someone who has noodled
on a harmonica for a while developing bad habits).

The results have been pretty amazing. Unfortunately, it doesn't translate
well to written words or to posts on the "L" aside from some of the basic
premises and concepts - (for instance, "Doing the Longest Line").

As stated below, "Walking the Dog" is one of the concepts I use to get the
students to play rhythm (Hut-tah Hut-tah) as they walk.

I do. It's called Woodshedding.

It's by taking a long walk with your harp. As often as possible.

Or hanging out in the stairwell of the condo... for hours.

Take the dog for a 20 minute walk in the morning

Take the dog for a walk for 20 minutes in the afternoon

and take the dog for a walk for 20 minutes before going to bed at night.

I had dogs... and did all that... and had harps.. and did that too.

And learned what I wanted to do with my harps, and learned what was required
to get to the next level...

by walking.... and playing... when nobody else was there... just me and my
harp (and dogs)

That's just me... but there have been many many examples of woodshedding
described here on the harp-l.

The fastest way to learn is to spend alot of time in the woodshed.

Anybody say what?

PEACE
