[Harp-L] "NORMAN SAVITT and FRIENDS" CD

This is an unsolicited plug for Norman Savitt's CD, “Norman Savitt and Friends”.

Norman has given me his CD as a gift. While he hasn’t asked me to promote it, I thought to share it with Harp-L members since it features Howard Levy on 4 tracks, playing somewhat “folkie” (Howard Levy Folkie.. don’t expect hard core folk music.. it's more like jazzy- folk..).

The CD was produced by Howard, and features in addition to Howard, Grammy winner Eugene Friesen on cello, Jazz Legend David Amram on penny-whistle, the Wonderful Susan Mitchell on violin and Savitt on acoustic guitar.

The cover features an original etching artwork by another of Savitt’s friend, fine artist Mark Whitcombe.

Overall, while this might not be a grondbreaking CD, it's very pleasant to listen to, professionally executed to a high quality, moody and atmospheric. It deserves to be checked out by harpists and all music lovers. For song samples, check here: http://www.balkansamba.com/normansavittcd.php

Carla Marie Rupp writes on CD Baby:

"Norman has assembled quite an impressive crew here, and after listening to it, I offered to write him some liner notes. I mainly write about jazz, and I find myself drawn to Norman’s style and vision. He calls himself “a primitive guitar player.” He is that—and much more.

I like Norman’s compelling music: it’s a mix of happy and meditative tunes, played with enjoyment, imagination and care, and we are really lucky to hear Norman featured on guitar, along with a handful of his talented friends. These are all friends who graciously offered to play on this CD, and it’s full of beautiful sounds and good feelings. There are 15 unique, original finger-style guitar pieces, some lovely, intimate duos and some played solo. ... What a gift to the rest of us who will have a chance to savor this new work! This CD is a pleasure!"
