[Harp-L] SPAH

Great to hear everyone would like SPAH closer to them. Tells me that SPAH
is doing ok. Personally, this will be the first SPAH that I have been able
to drive to since 1980. But I don't mind and yes, I have to prioritize my
vacations because of it.

Some other comments:

Unfortunately, we are not able to secure rates, function rooms, banquets and
many other services without a guarantee. That is the way the hotels work
and requires the admin of SPAH to be very careful so we do not lose member
funds.

Location:

I am sure we would all like to drive to SPAH, but it doesn't happen for
everyone. Our considerations are 1.)a capable hosting club 2.) a hotel
with proper accommodations and room rates (this year, it is $99.00) 3.) a
reasonable location that will ensure easy access and attendance. This year,
we surveyed flight cost just to be sure it was not out of line. For
example, if you booked early, the cost from NY was $325.00 round trip.
4.)Sure we like to hold the convention in the area where most harmonica
players are, but through the years, we have varied the location to
accommodate the varied requests.

I know there is not a way to please all. But think of this if you feel
Sacramento is too far: as of last week we had over 360 registrants and we
are ahead of last year and the year before. This convention has the
potential to be one of the best ever. The entertainment is out of sight and
every major harmonica manufacture CEO (Hohner, Suzuki, Seydel and Hering)
from their native countries will be in attendance. This does not include
their U.S. Presidents and V.P.s whom will also attend.

I do agree: Make noise if you can handle a SPAH Convention in your area.
It is a commitment and you can believe the Harmonicoots are doing an
excellent job. We are working towards booking 2 years ahead at the moment.
Also, we have to start thinking about SPAH's 50th Anniversary Convention
soon.. Where should that be and how big should it be?

Finally, if you are not a member of SPAH, you should be. It is through the
membership that we are able to carry on these wonderful conventions that we
get to chat about and further advance the harmonica.
