I don't know "As Time Goes By", but I love playing older songs from 20's - 40's, it is a lot of fun. My band plays mostly that kind of stuff, and we have a blast. Stuff like Five Foot Two, Ain't She Sweet, Sheik of Araby, Bill Bailey, Minnie The Moocher, Sweet Georgia Brown, etc... some on chromatic, some on diatonic. They are great songs, and folks seem to like it.

Tonight at the solo gig, a couple asked for "As Time Goes By". I had the
sequence handy so I played on guitar, sang it, and took a chromatic break on
it (it WAS in C!).
It's a great song and if it isn't hip, it only lasted a few minutes and they
liked it.
