RE: [Harp-L] Levon Helm and The Rco Allstars/Butter

I'll admit, I'm biased, but Anthony, if you're really looking for a taste of Butter, as stated here recently by a few, 1973 Paul Butterfield's Better Days is one of his more jaw dropping recording efforts (that's not only due to PB, but all the people playing on that record create, dare I say, a truly organic sound.) Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw is big and brassy with a nice helping of tasty acoustic harp to season the pot. Butterfield Blues Band - Live, again, as pointed out earlier, is a fantastic representation of Butterfiled's ability as a player, singer and band leader. Awesome playing by PB with The Band on the Last Waltz, most notably Mystery Train. He did some great work on an early Bonnie Raitt record (her first or second.) I even like his homespun "instructional" CD... not exactly instructional, more like PB "talking harp." He plays a little with Happy Traum, talks about his approach, what he's trying to say, tension and release, etc... Great stuff to listen to on the way to a gig (IMO (& if you're not driving in with the rest of the band.))

...and he plays the freakin thing "upside down."

Lighten up Rob! Better yet, look up the Iceman and see if he can "score"
you some Good Panama Red and if the price is still right, I might be driving
north!

I am near 40 and far from a youngste. Just one generation away from
free-love, damn the luck. I own hundreds of cd's and oddly still prefer
them over downloads. With that said, I won't take your advice and go buy a
CD to prove to myself what I already believe. I was looking for something
out there to support the Butterfield comments thinking I might have
overlooked something back in the day. Regrettably, that doesn't seem to be
the case.

The problem with you young 'youngsters' is that you think you can find TRUTH
on You Tube, spend some $$$ and buy some records or CD's good music isn't
free...

"Yeah, like WOW man, that must be it"
