An easier to handle alternative to the to the 16 hole chromatic is  
the Tenor CX-12.  It's a low range 12 hole chromatic that starts on  
the same note as the low octave of a 16 hole. It's easier to handle  
and still has that deep low end.  Hohner makes it in C.
