[Harp-L] Re: Why use a rack? now madcat's harp rack/mic

About the Madcat rack harp on a stand-
There is definitely a microphone in there! It is a very small dynamic mic. It is a cassette machine replacement microphone that I bought the mic at Radio Shack about 30 years ago (before inexpensive condenser mics were available). The difficult part was cutting a hole in the back of that binder clip. That spring metal is tough stuff! The microphone cable runs through the boom stand. One of my better inventions...

Look at another one of my YouTube videos:

If you scroll through to around 2:53, you can clearly see the microphone cord plugged into the bottom end of the boom stand.

Wow! What a great setup! Gotta try it. Don't know why I didn't think of it before. Leave it to the Madcat! Looks like the big paper clip is just taped to the mic ... it would accommodate even long harps, unlike some of the racks commonly used, which would be handy for me as I sometimes play Hohner Celestes. Thanks!

To me it looks like Madcat has taped the clip (called a bulldog clip in this part of the world) to the end of mic stand WITHOUT a mic in the stand (look for a cable). His vocals, the uke AND the harp would then all be picked up by the condensor mic (omni?) in front of him.

A neat harp holder that frees the hand, but I don't think the setup includes the mic. But these eyes ae gettin' old......
