Re: [Harp-L] Gunslingers VS Crapthrowers

Here is a cool Gunslinger story for everyone.
The first time I saw Muddy Waters was around 71', at the
Palace Theater in Waterbury, CT. It was a double bill with
the Willie Dixon band. Muddy had Fats on guitar and George Smith
on harp. Willie had Mojo Buford on harp. The crowd was sparse at best,
so everyone got to move down to the front at Muddy's prompting.
Willie opened the show, Muddy was the headliner. During Muddy's set
Willie came out and played. Then Mojo Buford came out and him and
George Smith had a 'staged gunslinger blowoff', with lots of theatrics, those guys
really knew how to work the audience. Anyway, I thought that it was
all done with taste and in good musical fun, a nice part of the show.
These guys all knew each other for years and I am sure it was a fun
thing to do a show together and have some fun.
I also wanted to mention something that hasn't really been touched
on about the blues and being a good blues musician. It is all about
RESPECT and love for the music. If you don't have that I don't care
how many licks you know, you will never be able to play and make it
real.

If one can remain PROFESSIONAL while cuttin heads then> in my OPINION, anything
that is ENTERTAINING for the Audience and in good taste is ACCEPTABLE for the
STAGE (including slingin your gun -- [harpin skills].
