R: R: [Harp-L] Re: Tone Gear Grail blah blah blah

Maybe I was misunderstood. What I would to say is that "you should be able
to walk before you try to run". In other words getting a good acoustic tone
will help the new player on knowing his sound and will help him to find the
right gear (or one of the right gears.). When he'll play amplified he'll be
able to improve his electrified tone because he's supported from his
acoustic experience. And as I told you: that's my opinion. And to be honest
I think the harp world is like the singing world. You have to do what you
feel to do. I can't take lessons from Prince if I wanna sing like Tom Waits.
You know what I mean?

Hi Riccardo-

Where is it written that a new player cannot develop "rich, deep and strong"
tone while using a mic and amp? In fact, if his goal is to have great amped
tone, shouldn't that be a required part of his learning?

I think that is the flaw in the thinking of those who howl about amps and
gear. They insist it is impossible to learn good habits on amped harp.
That is nonsense.

Sorry Rick, you are more experienced of me, but I don't totally agree with
you. I think if a newbie want to sound like another one (and that's a little
goal on the beginning, but a sad and un-personal road with as time goes by)
he should get a rich, deep and strong acoustic tone and THEN buy all the
gear he need. It should works in the simplest manner in this way otherwise
it will happen to them what happened to a lot of harp player (and in someway
to me too): they'll spend a lot of money on keep on changing their gear. I
think it's better spend a lot of time on playing that harp and find a good
tone.

PS: Honestly I wanted to sound like Butterfield, Wilson, Walter, Wells,
Musselwhite and name whoever you want...now I'd like to get their knowledge
of the harmonica. HAHA.
