Re: [Harp-L] Purchasing reed plates without the reeds and other questions

1) Seydel does, thus, I do. They sell
2) Typically, there are two reed-slot systems.
Long slot - up to and including C. I think Db is also long slot.
Short slot - D and up.
The exception is the 1847, they are all long slot.
Couple of examples:
Solist Pro reedplate (no reeds) $19.95.
Reeds only $16.95
Chromatic DeLuxe reedplate (no reeds) $36.95
Chromatic DeLuxe reeds only $32.95.
3) I'm pretty sure Pat Missin has something. If there's anything specific you wonder, just ask.

Usually when folks look at purchasing reedplates only, it's for some odd tuning they'd like, but those can be special made at Seydel for about the same price of buying all the parts yourself.

Subject: [Harp-L] Purchasing reed plates without the reeds and other questions

Dear Harp-L,

I have a few questions regarding reed plates. I am hoping someone out there
might have the answers.

1) Do any distributors offer blank or empty reed plates without the reeds
attached?

2) Do the reed slots vary in size from each key of harmonica? In other
words, is the blow 1 reed slot the same or a different size on a C versus an
A harmonica? Or is there just one generic reed plate that is used for all of
the keys?

3) Have there been any websites or related literature published on reed and
reed plate construction?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
