Re: [Harp-L] Questions questions,,

I think he used what he got. The 545 he got had a pistol grip so he used it
that way. No other reason than he liked the sound that mic had, so he used
it the way he got it.

The S and the D in the model number means Switch - on/off, Dual Impedance.

The 545 D can be easily re-wired for either low or high impedance and they
came in the box with the instructions.

As for songs "melding" into other songs... ever been to a Grateful Dead
concert? =8^D

Subject: [Harp-L] Questions questions,,

In the following clip, of Butterfield, from Youtube:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=wnb_EJitpHA

Wanted to ask the "L",,this mic Butterfield uses, the Shure "545", with
"pistol-grip",,what is the point of carrying around the heavy-a** grip,
along with the mic? Was there some advantage to having the "grip", other
than the ability to attach it to some stand, which he never seems to do
anyway? Or was it just a cool look?

What kind of element was used in these mikes? Are they made the same way
today? Are they even still made? Is this the one with the switch? (545-s?).
What's an "SD"?

Questions, questions,,

Bye the way, seems like somebody miscued here, from 3:57 to 4:10, when
Butterfield comes back in. Looks like Buzzy Feiten wanted to hand it off to
the other guitarist, who makes a weak, thrown off-guard attempt at 4:04, or
something else,,

Anyway, it seems an awkward moment, until Butterfield comes back in at 4:10.
Otherwise, I've always liked this song, for it's unique qualities. It's not
your typical, stereotypical rock or blues line, rhythm OR melody-wise. Lots
of room to move, on a simple, dependable bottom line. It can be done with
various variations,,er,,variously. Plus, it's descending, rather than
ascending (hence, "going down"), offering an alternative to the usual fare.

Seems like this song would "mesh", or "meld" well with some others of
similarly syncopative sense. You could "weave" this one into or with
something else, or just evolve it into something else, mid-song, and it
would be cool.

It's interesting when bands do that,,instead of the usual lapse between
songs, do something of a "medley", rather than just the same old "Okay,,for
our next song,,",,the same old stop-and-go runaround.

It takes planning, work, but the results,,

Drives 'em wild. "No,,no,,stop,,I can't take any more,,," (sounds of crowd
screaming in background,,fans leaping from the balcony,,women ripping their
clothing off and throwing it on the stage,,men ripping women's clothing off
and throwing it onstage,,sirens,,cops arresting naked men and women and
throwing them in the back of the van,,)

Now THAT was a concert,,

Okay, well,,

I especially like the way Jeff Beck did this one.
