Re: [Harp-L] Just Intonation for Blues?

Dear Winsow & Harp-L,
I think a lot of it is what the player gets used too...
For many years, I just used to buy harmonicas and play them "out of the box"
When they lost tune I'd throw them away.
Then about 15 or probably 20 years ago, I discovered Antony Danneker. He
rebuilt and retuned almost all of my harmonicas.
After several years, I checked their tunings, and discovered them all tuned
to A446...
So the next harps I sent to him I specified A440...
When I played the 440 harps they played SO flat!
Tony and I chatted about this and he said "John, you play HARD, you get 100%
volume available, a lot of the time"... So I tune your harps to A446...
The thing is, if you play hard, you can "flatten" the notes, but there is no
way a player can "sharpen" the notes!
Just my 2 pence worth.
