There is a legend of dubious veracity among the blind community that says he
learned to hold the guitar that way because nobody showed him how other
people were holding it.
His passing was particularly sobering for me because I lost my eye-sight
from retinoblastoma, the same cancer that caused his blindness.  I was
spared what typically happens though, as I've never had any other
manifestations/expressions of the cancer.
It sounds cliché to say it, but that was one of those "There, but for the
grace of God" moments for me.
