Hi, harp-l!

I stumbled onto playing Take Five on a Db harp.
Starting note is Bb. What position is that? Thanks, Ole
This is 3-rd position (Dm for C harp, Ebm for Db harp).

Yes, 3rd position. If you look at the circle of 5ths, the Db is the major of the Bb minor, so shift over to the right one slot to account for the tonic starting note of Bb.
But, the reason I query is because you have to start the tune with a 2 step bend in the first place and then almost HALF the total notes are bends, Some multi-step bends on the same not. VERY hard to hit clean.. at least time and time again. Then the bridge has too many over blows. VERY hard to hit consistently.

I play these tune starting with 5 blow (or 2 blow) in 4-th position
(Low F# harp for the key of Ebm), it seems much easier - some overblow in bridge (but all overblow is easy, as the

Yes, that's the way that would be much easier. Pretty straightforward until you get to the 'waterfall' in the bridge. Then you STILL have some overblows and while you may think the 5 & 6 overblows are easy, they aren't THAT easy. You must be quite advanced.

goes straight after draw at the same hole). Or with natural minor harp
you have to play only one overblow (but you can skip this note if you
can't play them).

A-Haaa, the famous 'let's skip that note'. Ok, well, it all depends on whether it is a crucial note. Every tune has a few notes that are crucial, and skipping them should be avoided. I tried all 3 of these methods (3rd, 4th, and 4th low), and they all require some work. I just played this tune at 9:30 tonight to start our second set and I used a C chromo, with the slide IN, following Dm fingering. Result..... Eb minor. It sure was a lot less work. But then again, I am getting lazy in my old age.

Everyone have fun, jokes on me, have a good time.
