[Harp-L] Kim Wilson - NY Syracuse Blues Fest

Saw Kim Wilson do a Harp 'Workshop' (small stage in a tiny tucked away park where he and his two new guitar players did some cool tunes and he interacted with the audience of @ 50 mostly harp geek looking guys (you know the type). He played either accoustic through the PA or amped through the provided Fender Hot Rod DeVille goosed by a Ron Holmes Harp Commander III. Great tone and chops as usual. Was nice to sit in the front row and watch from maybe 12 feet away.

He didn't say much about equipment but was complimentary about the Meteor amp (played through one side by side with a Fender Hot Rod DeVille later when the Fab T-Birds headlined day one of the fest later that night). The workshop was mostly 3 songs and Kim talking about the need to 'sell' a song and say something while playing - not a lot of harp geek tech stuff. Mentioned his harp heroes and non-harp must listen guys like sax man Illinois Jacquet. Stressed the need to sing and front.?Main message - develop your own 'voice' or style.

Syracuse Harp man Bernie Clark put on a GREAT 2 day festival with 2 stages, great sound, and a harp lover's delight for a lineup. Bernie was a pretty fair harp player and singer in his own right. Tom Townsley played some sweet tunes as well on the Dynosaur BBQ stage.

I think my revelation of the fest was John Nemeth - the guy is outstanding on the harp AND a wonderful singer. He is the real deal - see him if you can.
