[Harp-L] shure 545 unidyne III

Hi, John-

There were MANY different models of 545. The definitive source on the subject is http://www.angelfire.com/music/harmonica/shure545.html

In any case, though, you start by removing the connector. You can usually figure it out from there - and you can't hurt anything if you get it wrong. There is a screw that retains the connector in the barrel - unscrew it and pull the connector out. Usually, the red and blue wires are the low-z combination, connected to pins 2 and 3. The black and white wires are the high impedance set. With some 545's you pull the red wire socket off the back of the pin and move the white one there; some later 545's have a jumper on the back of pin 2 or 3; you simply move it to disconnect the red and connect the white to that pin. Then your hi-Z signal is on that pin and ground. Some Hi-Z cables are "pin 2 hot" and some are "pin 3 hot" so you'll need to make sure the configuration sends the white wire (hot) signal down the correct pin for your cable; pin 1 should always be ground.
