[Harp-L] re: effects live

The problem with live effects, stompbox, rack mounted, or computer, is they
can muck up your sound. Simple things like echo or flange which sound great
recorded can sound horrible in the less than ideal listening conditions you
find at a bar or an outdoor festival.

For really good free plugins go here:

Try SIR convolution reverb. There's a whole site dedicated to reverb
impulses here:

http://www.noisevault.com/

The Eventide reverb impulses are extrodinary. There's a graphic display so
you can apply the reverb only to the higher frequencies. A lot of times this
makes for a cleaner sound, less mud. SIR also has a reverse button. Reverse
reverb is really cool.

Also, Big Tick makes a free dual delay that synchs to the tempo track
automatically.

Cyanide is a beautiful distortion--not warm, not tube like, more like
something in the signal chain is seriously broken. That through the dual
delay and the reverse reverb is quite a sound. Not sure how it would fare in
a live environment, though.
