Re: [Harp-L] orange blossom special for green horns

Here's a video I took at the Kanawha County Fair last fall of Charlie playing Orange Blossom.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cp1bPmO2kYw
I was sitting on a bale of West Virginia straw at my native county fair. It was great! It was also great to be back home in Southern W.Va. I like Parkersburg, but feel out-of-place up here in the frozen north of northern West Virginia. There is a dialetic line about halfway twixt Charleston and Parkersburg. People south of that line, in my native land, speak Mountain Southern Midland. Folks above that line talk like they are from New York City (regular Midland) I am one of only a few people in Parkersburg without an accent.... lol... If you ever drive up Interstate 77, stop at a gas stations in Beckley, Charleston and Parkersburg, listen to the clerks talk and you can hear the regional dialect change.
Btw, at the fair I noticed his harps sound even more perfect when he is blowing his native West Virginia air through them....

Oh yeah, Excellent post, Winslow..

F harp for the opening second position licks (in C).

Then there's that walking-down riff that leads into the key of F.

At this point you play the part where you just chug through the chord progression F - Bb - C - F a couple of times. For this you alternate between an F harp and a Bb harp:

F chord - play this either as a blow chord on the F harp or draw chord on the Bb.

Bb chord - blow chord on the Bb

C chord - draw chord on the F harp

F chord - stay on the F harp.

After this part comes the main orange Blossom Melody. You play that in first position on the F harp.

Then the key switches back to C and you're back to playing second position licks on the F harp.

Hope this helps.

I have been playing harp for about 14 years.I have pretty descent tone and probabably have fooled a few people into thinking i can really play harmonica.I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to play with a rock band fronm the jersey shore .They do Dead, Dylan, Cash, blues country and orig. The opportunity has been agood one for me.I have played with them many times but always on the fly.Sometimes the PA . Sometimes me and my Princeton being drowned out by loud guitars.Still alot of fun.I recently started playing out again after a 4-5 layoff due to the births of my daughter and son. Some with the rock band (bluehighwaysonline.net)Some a local open jam.I interested in using harp-l as place i can get some answers to some questions I have.So now that i have officially introduced myself here is my first question.
I am trying to play Orange Blossom Special (johnny cash version) what key harps are used I am using an F in 2ND
