[Harp-L] Butter's Driftin'.

I, like many, was delighted to see Butter and band crankin up a storm at both festivals {Monterey and Woodstock} as seen on youtube, and sincere thanks to the person/s who posted the clips.
However what did surprise me was how different and IMHO ,dare I say it,how pale his playing was on these 2 takes of D.B as compared to the recording which crowns the double album "Golden Butter".
Now I know I leave myself open to harsh criticism for having the temerity to suggest Butter's playing was ever
anything less than sublime yet I am merely suggesting that when one listens to the G.B album's D.B as I have done for eons, and marvels at the focus and fluidity of his playing and then watches the festival versions, well, frankly the latter doesn't seem on the same level.
I just wonder what was the chronology of these performances of that particular tune.Had he developed it and fleshed it out by the time of the album cut or maybe he had a better nights sleep prior to the version on G.B which, again, IMO ranks as one of the defining blues harp performances?
Sean.
