I don't have any specific information on this.  I had subscribed to the torsional oscillation theory, which seemed to mean that the reed's thickness was more important that its width in determining its propensity for squealing on bends or overbends.  Bobby had another idea about that, that I found quite interesting, but I can't recall the details without referring back to old posts.
