Re: [Harp-L] Bashfully inquiring

It is a case of "each to his own", I am afraid. Most of the people I play
with occasionally play churches, so we would have no difficulty playing one
of the side or related buildings as well. Then again I am a "bluegrasser"
and gospel is a big part of the genre. However, I am in the middle of
Texas. The commute would be a killer!

If you are not concerned about particular instruments being involved
(harmonicas or no), then you might also make your situation and question
known in the local "music rag" where many musicians communicate with each
other and with the local music associations, especially any local folk or
bluegrass associations. If you cannot locate any with your normal resources
(phone, web, newspaper, etc.), the contact the IBMA ( www.ibma.org) and see
if they can help you find your nearest bluegrass associations. (IBMA =
International Bluegrass Music Association) Many of the smaller bluegrass
associations maintain a relationship with the IBMA in their support and in
benefit of their members.

You are also welcome to bring your plea to the bluegrassharps list.
However, you will need to register with the list through the Coast To Coast
Music website (www.coast2coastmusic.com ), who sponsors the list (like SPAH
sponsors this one). There you should be able to locate the information you
will need to join the list and post to it. I will warn you that it is a
quiet list, since folk/old-time/celtic/bluegrass/country harmonica players
tend to be fewer in overall numbers than the blues harmonica population, and
we frequently only post when we have something to ask or say. However, ask
your questions and you should at least get a "welcome to the list" response.

Another list where you may be able to put out your message is the bluegrass
list (bgrass-l). Many bluegrassers from the eastern part of the country
interact there fairly frequently. It is an old and very busy list. The
archives of this list can be reviewed at
http://lsv.uky.edu/archives/bgrass-l.html, though you will need to stay on
the list in order to return any emails. At the top of this archive page
should be a way for you to join and leave the list as you need to.

Having received only 1 reply, I am wondering if too many folk on this
list are not willing to play in a religious venue (perhaps thinking
that the limitations on the music might be to religious or gospel
music). Or if there aren't many folk in the Philly area, or willing
to travel there. Or if since folk don't know me there is a hesitance
to consider this. Or if the lack of responses are for some other
reason.
