I think those chords sound
somewhere between pretty good and crazy good, especially the big Major
7+9 chord that ends the piece.

Yeah, at around 1:08-1:10 or so it really sounds like a chromatic. At
least at the first few listens. But then there is so much diatonic
goodness in there too...

that might be, but I see now that it's a Maj7 with a 9...)
