[Harp-L] Re: Free Jazz Handbook

Oh lighten up friends! I suspect Jazmaan was intending some ironic humor, there. Can we spell "oxymoron"?

And I've seen Jazmaan read a book (I think it was "Archie & Veronica Be-Bop at Pop's Chocolate Shoppe" or something like that.)

But don't forget many fine jazz players weren't book learners, like Louis Armstrong, for example. And me, someday.

Frankly I am often bewildered by the number of people who approach jazz or blues as a process to be mastered by intellectual analysis. Perhaps 'cause I got no tekneek or intallek. OK.

Yes, many prefer booklearnin' for music. Even blues, I guess. But FOR ME, in terms of playing music, I figure if I need a book to get me there, it ain't much of a ride. Vive la difference.

SO Jazmaan, et al.: what do you think of a book titled, "The Rules and Methods of Playing Honest Gutsy Blues Harp." Oops! Yikes! I just swallowed a Special 20!

You can't really be serious about this statement. The best Jazz players in the world used books
to study from.
Regardless of idiom, books are necessary to learn from, especially when learning a musicians
music like Jazz.
