Re: [Harp-L] Hammond B3 sounds and effects

I'm remembering something from the 70's. Along about the time J Geils came
out with the "Ladies Invited" album it was rumored that Magic Dick was using
Leslie speakers for that sound he had on "Chimes" and other tunes. It seems
like I can remember copping the licks on Chimes with a chromatic. Does anybody
remember that tune and how they figured out the licks? For that matter I
heard that Dick was putting a marble in his mouth and getting some kind of weird
thing going on the harp. Sounded pretty much like bulljive to me then, and
sounds pretty ridiculous now. (shrug) Oh the memories of youth.
Back then effects were pretty much a mystery to me and I remember when
Spirit In The Sky came out how everybody wanted that fuzz sound. Hendrix was
getting pretty cool stuff outta that Roto Vibe thing he was using.
Anyway, these people weren't afraid to try a new twist on an old effect
or amp, and set the stage for experimental sounds that goes on to this day.
I've never been much for effects on harp but after hangin' with youz guys I
think it's about time I check it out. Thanx yall for opening my eye's.
